IG's fake brother land in police lockup

Jammu, May 13 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested a person impersonating as the brother of Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu region, official sources said here.

The accused, identified as Sanjay Gupta, son of Subhash Chander and resident of Rehari colony, has befooled number of police officers, including some SPs and managed to get favour from them on the pretext that he is the real brother of IG Jammu range, Dr S P Vaid.

Police booked him under section 419 and section 382 of RPC and lodged an FIR against him at gandhi nagar police station today.

Sources said the accused has cheated number of people including police officers in recent time. The matter came to the notice of IG who issued a circular to all the police stations directing them to arrest person claiming himself to be his (IG's) brother.

It was learnt that during the recent Jammu Festival, the accused managed free access to all the vanes and had a free ride of hot air balloon, after impersonating himself as brother of IG.

The accused, sources said, went to Gandhi Nagar police station today and sought a favour from the Station House Officer (SHO) over some matter. As the accused was already on wanted list, he was immediately taken into custody and a case was registered against him.
