IGNOU, DU, UGC likely to collaborate on new education programme
New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Delhi University and the University Grants Commission are likely to enter into a collaboration to give a new dimension to education in the country.
Minister of state for Human Resources Development D Purandeswari announced the partnership at the 'National Seminar cum Workshop on Convergence of Conventional and Distance Modes of Education here.
''We have proposed for inclusive education for inclusive growth, and for a nation-wide movement towards information literacy and massive workforce training,'' she said in her inaugural address at the seminar launched yesterday.
She said if the target of 15 per cent of the relevant age group in higher education has to be achieved, strategies must be devised to educate every youth to make him capable of employment.
IGNOU Vice Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai said a conventional teacher can use the technology to reach the far-flung areas.
''A possible partnership between IGNOU-UGC-DU shall be essential for others to emulate,'' he added.
Among others the inaugural session of the seminar was a attended by UGC chairman S Thorat, DU VC Deepak Pental and several bureaucrats from HRD Ministry.
Mr Pental expressed the hope that IGNOU shall collaborate with DU for course material and also stresed on the need for question banks by teachers.
