Heat waves claims 20 lives in AP
Hyderabad, May 13 (UNI) The unabated heatwave in the state for the last three days has resulted in the death of 21 people.
Sources said eight people died of sunstroke in Khammam, five in Nalgonda, two in Adilabad and one each in Prakasham, Nellore, East Godavari, Medak, Guntur and Krishna districts.
However, the State Health and Disaster Management Departments did not confirm if the deaths were caused by sunstroke.
According to the Meteorological Department officials here, the heat wave, caused by the north-westerly dry winds blowing aross the state, would continue over the coastal belt for a few more days. The department also issued a warning to the coastal districts about the weather conditions.
Many villages and towns in coastal districts, reeling under excessive heat, recorded day temperatures of 44 degree celsius in the last two days.
