Hailstorm and rain kill 26 in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow, May 13: At least 26 people have been killed in several parts of Uttar Pradesh due to rain and hailstorm.
According to reports from Gorakhpur, as many as 12 people were injured in various incidents of wall collapse and uprooting of trees. Four people later succumbed to their injuries.
A strong hailstorm last night caused uprooting of many trees and electricity poles, besides incidents of wall collapse in which many people received injuries, the police said today. The injured had been admitted to hospital, they added.
The hailstorm also affected the electricity supply in the Gorakhpur division besides affecting the movement of trains in the state.
The mango crop were badly hit by the sudden change in weather.
Meanwhile, at least 400 houses were gutted in fire-related incidents which started due to stroms in Talgram, Indragarh, Thatia, Salempur and Muchwapur districts.
The administration has announced an ex gratia of Rs 50,000 for the kin next to the victim.
