City of priests offer prayers for Mayawati govt.

Varanasi, May 13 (UNI) Traditionally clad Brahmin priests today offered special prayers in this holy city for the success of the Mayawati-led BSP government which assumed power due to Dalit-Brahmin combination.

Headed by Pandit Ashok Dwivedi, eminent astrologer of the city, the team of 21 Brahmins performed the 'Nauchandi Paath' to pray for the longevity and success of the Mayawati-led government.

''It is after a gap of 16 years that a government has attained power with a clear majority in UP. The special prayer has been offered to do away with any planetary obstructions which could mar the functioning of the Mayawati government,'' Pandit Ashok Dwiwedi told UNI here.

Besides, special prayers under the auspices of Vaidik Brahmin Parishad that spanned for over six-hours in the Bhelupur area, a group of five shehnai players led by Rajendra Prasanna played 'mangal dhwani' (auspicious tunes) to pray for the success of BSP government.
