Buddhist monk shot dead in Lanka's east
Colombo, May 13 (UNI) A leading Buddhist monk has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the restive eastern Sri Lanka this morning, police said.
According to police, the elderly priest, Sandungamuwe Nandaratana Theara, was killed at his temple in the Morawewa area in the Eastern province.
Pro-peace priest Theara was a popular figure in the area and had also ordained a member of the minority Tamil community into the monkhood recently.
