Attempt to burn undertrial

Tikamgarh, MP, May 13 (UNI) An attempt has been made to immolate an undertrial at the District Jail here, prison sources said.

Sheikh Naiem Shameem was admitted to the District Hospital with severely-burnt arms.

Inmates Hakim Singh, Peti Raja and their accomplices assaulted Shameem late on Friday after he failed to pay an extortion amount.

The victim's hands were tied with polythene and set ablaze. Hearing Shameem's cries, guards doused the fire and conveyed him to hospital.

A jail probe was underway.
