15 killed, 22 hurt in TN mishaps

Chennai, May 13: As many as 15 persons, including four women and two girls, were killed on the spot and 22 injured in five different accidents in various parts of Tamil Nadu since last night.

Police said four people were killed and five injured when the car in which they were travelling hit a roadside tree after one of the front tyres burst at Swaminathapuram near Palani in Dindigul District last night.

The occupants were proceeding to Coimbatore from Kodaikanal when the accident occurred. The deceased were identified as Alaguvel (40) Assistant Engineer, TNEB, Coimbatore, his wife Ms Kumutha (35), their daughter Indhumathi (12) and Rajasekaran (40).The injured were admitted to government hospital at Palani.

Five persons, including two women and a teenaged girl, were killed and 16 injured when a van in which they were travelling rammed into a rearside of stranded lorry at Chettipalli Village on the Vaniyambadi-Krishnagiri National Highway near Krishnagiri early today.They were proceeding to Krisnagiri from Arni when the accident occured.

The deceased were identified Ms Davamani (50), Ms Roja (40), Vivekhanandan (14), Madhan Kumar (15) Ranjitha (13). The injured were admitted to government hospital at Krishnagiri.

Two persons were killed and another injured when their motorcycle in was run over by a lorry near Manapparai in Tiruchirapalli district.

The deceased were identified as Chandrasekaran (23) and Jayachandran (25). One Venkatesan was admitted to government headquarters hospital at Tiruchirapalli with injuries.

In another incident, two persons were killed when their two- wheeler was run over by an unidentified vehicle at ThethurVilakku Road near Thuvarangkurichi in Tiruchirapalli District.The deceased were identified as Neelasivan (40) and Jose (35).

Two cyclists were killed on the spot when a state transport corporation bus ran over them at Kivalaikanni Village in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu.

The victims were identified as Arumugam (45) and his elder sister Pitchammal (60).
