Two HM commanders among three killed, four ultras arrested in J

Srinagar, May 12 (UNI) Two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commanders were among three people killed while four militants were arrested and a large cache of arms and ammunition recovered in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

An official spokesperson said police and security forces launched a joint operation at Tankipora-Tarzoo, Sopore, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla today.

However, when the troops were sealing the area, militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash, two HM commanders were killed. One of the commanders was identified as Ishtaq Ahmad. Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

He said militants shot dead one Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie, a contractor, at Gundpora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama last night.

Two militants of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were arrested by security forces and the police in a joint operation at Daril, Vilgam, in the frontier district of Kupwara. Two AK rifles, four magazines, 120 rounds of ammunition, one wireless set, two UBGL and two hand grenades were recovered from their possession.

He said two persons entered the house of one Abdul Khaliq Malik at Safnagri in Shopian district last night and demanded money from the inmates. However, they raised an alarm and both the men were later arrested by the police.

Security forces recovered five AK rifles, 13 magazines, 369 rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades at Lone Harray.
