TN Govt laying stress on youth development: Official

Rajahmundry, May 12 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government is spending Rs 2,500 crore every year for the development of youth, Special Commissioner G A Rajkumar said today.

Talking to UNI, he said the amount was being spent through the various department of the State Government.

He said the government is creating two lakh job opportunities for youth this year in Power sector infrastructural projects, rural development, tourism, health, travel, IT, transportation, telecommunication consultants and many other sectors.

Apart from directing the Banking sector to provide venture capital to the youth to set up their own industry, the government would earmark Rs 200 crore in the budget to encourage young entrepreneurs.

The government had asked the Gram Panchayats to set aside 40 per cent of their annual budget for taking up youth-related developments, Mr Rajkumar, secretary to the government, Youth Welfare and Sports Development said.

He said all unemployed youth registered with Employment Exchanges in the State were being given a dole of Rs 400.

According to Mr Raj Kumar, five lakh unemployed were provided jobs in Government as well as private sectors.

Stating that youths preferred built-operate-transfer (BOT) sectors, he said the state government was also making efforts to stop migration to urban areas.
