Singapore agrees to import agro-products from AP
Hyderabad, May 12 (UNI) The Singapore Government today agreed to import eggs, fish, fruits, vegetables and other food requirements from Andhra Pradesh at a reasonable price.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had a detailed discussion with Mr Chuasin Bin, CEO of Agri Food Veterinary Authority, Government of Singapore.
Dr Reddy said as part of trade promotion, the Trading Corporation could facilitate exports of many such items from the state, an official press release said.
He suggested the Singapore authorities that they could enter into a direct buy-back arrangement with Andhra Pradesh farmers.
Andhra Pradesh ranks first in the production of mangoes, oil palm, chillies and turmeric in the country and exports mangoes, eggs, broiler, brackish water shrimp and fresh water prawns.
The state is famous for different types of mangoes like Banginapally, Totapuri, Neelam and Rasalu etc.
He said the state also ranked second in productivity and production of cotton in the country and ranked first in paper production.
The Singapore authorities have shown keen interest in importing various other items on mutually-beneficial lines.
The chief minister assured them that quality would be maintained while exporting these food items from Andhra Pradesh.
