Chennai, May 12: The resistance to new ideas within and outside the system is tampering with the development of the nation and if the trend continued, India will lose in this globally competitive environment, National Knowledge Commission Chairman Sam Pitroda said today.

In his video message, addressing the international seminar on 'Delearn to Relearn' organised by Knowledge Xchange here, Mr Pitroda said Indian system has not been able to generate real enthusiasm for a change in education scenario.

With the advent of technology we need to focus on knowledge innovation. All modes of old education methods should be re-examined and we need to focus on delivering high quality education to groom skilled manpower, necessary for nation's economic prosperity.

Speaking on the occasion, XLRI Jamshedpur Director Fr S J Casimir Raj said the private universities in the country had failed to deliver quality education needed for the new generation industries.

He said the government should work in tandem with private universities to provide quality education.

The government should provide 100 per cent tax exemption to private educational institutions. The education, which had a value, could be made commercial so that the people on the look out for quality education can easily access it, he added.
