Raja Ravi Varma Award for Hussain

Thiruvananthapuram, May 12 (UNI) Noted painter M F Hussain has been selected for this year's Raja Ravi Varma Award.

The award, instituted by the Kerala State Government in 2001, is given annually to persons who have made outstanding contributions to the field of painting and sculpture.

Announcing the award at a press conference here today, Minister for Cultural Affairs M A Baby said Hussain would be presented a cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh a citation and a statuette.

Mr Hussain was selected by a Jury comprising Vivan Sundram, Prof Ajay Kumar, Dr Reji Tony and Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi Chairman C N Karunakaran.
