Orissa DGP visits Maoist infested Mayurbhanj district
Baripada, May 12 (UNI) Orissa's Director General of Police Amarananda Pattnaik today visited the Maoist dominated areas in Mayurbhanj to take stock of the situation following the killing of a forester by the rebels and injuring six policemen in landmine blast this week.
Forester Rabindra Patra was shot dead at Sargada forest beat by the armed Maoists on Wednesday and on the following day the ultras triggered a landmine injuring six policemen including a Sub-Inspector near Chadheipahada under Gurumohisani police station limits.
The DGP, who visited the area in civil dress and in motor cycle along with Inspector General of Police (Operation) Shyam Sundar Hansda and Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Singh told reporters here that all steps were being taken in collaboration with the neighbouring Jharkhand government to effectively tackle the outlaws.
He said the Special Operation Group(SOG) personnel, a strategic force to contain anti-naxalite activities would intensify the combing operation in the area to flush out the rebels.
Mr Pattnaik said the police would meet the people living in Naxalite prone areas and seek their co-operation in combating the growing Maoist activities. The DGP had some interaction with the local people during his visit to the area.
