Mango farmers resort to dharna
Hyderabad, May 12 (UNI) Mango farmers in Andhra Pradesh today resorted to rasta roko, protesting against the buyers who refused to buy the fruits, while about 400 lorries that came from different parts of the state carrying mangoes blocked traffic for several hours.
Officials of the market had earlier directed the buyers not to collect 'Chute' (service charge) and to stop use of chemical grass for preserving the fruits in the wholesale markets.
Unwilling to follow the instructions of the authorities, the buyers refused to buy the stock brought by farmers. There was tension for a while as farmers resorted to the agitation.
The situation was brought under control after the market authorities had a talk with both the farmers and the buyers. Traffic was later cleared.
