Love lost, lover attacks girl, attempts suicide

Guwahati, May 12 (UNI) In a bizarre incident, a 24-year-old lover today attacked a girl, and later attempted suicide by jumping into a pond.

Police said a resident of Kailashpur, Pawan Shah attacked the girl, a student of Tinsukia Law College, with sharp weapons and seriously injured her while she was returning from college this afternoon.

Later, Pawan jumped into a pond in a bid to commit suicide, but was rescued by onlookers.

Sources said the girl refused to continue the affair she had with Pawan, prompting the latter to resort to the crime. The girl was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. She sustained injuries on her back and throat.

The police also took Pawan to the Tinsukia Civil Hospital. He was out of danger, doctors said.

A case has been registered at Tinsukia police station in this regard.

Police said Pawan had attempted another suicide three months back.
