Mysore, May 12 (UNI) Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) President K S Puttannaiah today flayed the state government's decision to auction government lands cleared from encroachments and threatened with agitation against it.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said the KRRS would launch an agitation to recover the land from the rich who had secured the land and distribute the same to the poor.

With the land costs in cities and towns booming, it had become difficult for the poor to buy sites and live. He urged the government to initiate steps to distribute the government lands to those who did not own their one homes, instead of auctioning it.

On the Cauvery water dispute, he said it was not enough if the government merely filed an appeal before the Supreme Court. The government should come out with a white paper on what it proposed to discuss with Tamil Nadu Government in case it initiates talks on the issue.

He also announced that the 'Cauvery Kutumba' (family) meeting between the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, a farmers meeting, will be held here on May 14.
