Jaya demands accounts of felicitation function
Chennai, May 12 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today demanded the DMK to make public the expenditure incurred for the Golden Jubilee celebration of DMK President and TAmil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in the state legislature.
In a statement here, Ms Jayalalithaa said that auditors appointed by the AIADMK would check the accounts and retrieve the amount spent from the public exchequer.
Besides, the Karunanidhi family should pay the Rs 200 crore spent on Murasoli Maran's medical expenditure when he was the commerce minister in the then NDA government, of which the DMK was a key constituent.
Ms Jayalalithaa also alleged that Mr Karunanidhi had only completed 38 years as a legislator in the Tamil Nadu assembly and faulted the Golden jubilee celebrations.
Rejecting DMK Treasurer Arcot Veerasamy's statement that only the DMK and its allies in the DPA had spent for the felicitation function yesterday, Ms Jayalalithaa contended that lakhs of Rupees would have been spent on the two grandly designed invitations for the felicitation in the assembly.
Ms Jayalalithaa also demanded that Mr Karunanidhi should own responsibility for the attack on the Tamil daily 'Dinakaran' in Madurai on May 9 and pay solatium to the families of the three victims from his personal account and not from the exchequer.
