Elephant crushes woman to death

Hardwar, May 12 (UNI) An old woman was crushed to death by an elephant in Shyampur forest range of this district.

Parvati Devi (58), resident of village Gajowali was crushed to death in the Shyampur forest range yesterday, sources said.

Forest sources said the woman had gone to the forest to collect fuel. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Hardwar, S P Subudhi announced an immediate relief of Rs 5000 to the bereaved family. The DFO said as per forest rules, he recommended to the state forest department to provide a compensation of Rs 1,00,000 to the family of the victim.

This is the second such incident in the last two days of a woman being trampled to death by a rogue elephant in the forest range.
