Caste appeal in UP adversely affecting Left's prospects: CPI(M)

New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) The Polit Bureau of the Comunist Party of India (Marxist) today said the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections had shown a strong influence of cast appeal in the state which was adversely affecting the Left's prospects.

The CPI(M), in a press statement issued here, said the party and the Left will have to take this reality into account in formulating its strategy to project an independent platform based on real issues affecting the people.

After nearly one and a half decade a single party Government will be formed in UP. It now remained to be seen how the new Government, led by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, will fulfill people's expectations, the statement said.

The defeat of the Samajwadi Party was mainly due to the lawlessness and criminal activites under its regime and the gathering of all anti-incumbency vote around the BSP, the release added.
