Three hospitalised following Ammonia leakage
Kochi, May 11 (UNI) Three people were hospitalised with complaints of nausea and breathlessness following a suspected Ammonia gas leakage at Irumpanam, near here, last night.
Sources at the Thripunithura Government Hospital, where the three people were admitted, today said their condition was stable.
At least 100 people from the Karshaka Colony and Bhaskaran Colony were shifted to a relief camp, set up by the district administration, as people panicked after the foul odour, first noticed around 2000 hrs, increased.
Several children also complained of nausea and vomiting following the suspected gas leak, the area residents said.
The source of the leakage could not be ascertained immediately.
There was speculation that the gas leaked from a subsidiary storage plant of FACT. However, FACT authorities said the chance of leakage from the plant was minimal as it had been shut down for the past few days.
A high-level meeting was on here this morning to review the situation.
