Snow and rain in HP

Shimla, May 11 (UNI) The western disturbance lying over adjoining Jammu and Kashmir brought mild snow in the high reaches of Kangra and Lahaul Spiti district and heavy rains in the lower areas of Kangra and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh today.

Isolated places in Chamba, Solan, Sirmuar and Shimla districts also received light showers, while overcast conditions were prevailing in Hamirpur and Una district of the state, the met office said here.

It said the higher reaches of Dhauladhar Ranges in Kangra and Lahaul Spiti districts were experiencing mild intermittent snowfall since afternoon, plummeting temperatures in the region.

Heavy rains followed by thunderstorm lashed Kangra and Mandi towns and Rekong Peo, the district headquarter of Kinnuar district, with isolated places in Chamba, Solan and Shimla receiving light sudden showers, forcing people to scurry for cover.

Reports reaching here said rains lashed Mandi town for over three hours and Dharamshala for more than an hour, while Rekong Peo experienced heavy rains for 30 minutes.

The famous tourist resorts of Manali in Kullu district and Dalhousie in Chamba district were receiving intermittent rainfall since morning, the met office said.

Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 24.7 degrees, followed by 31.4 at Sundernagar, 25.1 at Bhuntar, 21 at Kalpa, 26.8 at Dharamshala and 34.6 degrees at Una.

The minimum temperature at Shimla was 14.5 degrees, 17.2 at Sundernagar, 13.2 at Bhuntar, 6.1 at Kalpa, 15.3 at Dharamshala and 19.4 at Una.

The met office said Shimla recorded 2.1 mm of rains, while Bhuntar received 13 mm, Kalpa five and Sundernagar point eight mm of rains up till 1730 hrs.

It also predicted rain or thundershowers at few isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
