Sangma hails Mayawati for historic victory

Shillong, May 11 (UNI) Former Lok Sabha Speaker and Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) leader Purno A Sangma today congratulated Bahujan Samajwadi Party(BSP) chief Mayawati for her outstanding victory in the Uttar Pradesh's assembly elections.

''The landslide victory of the BSP will ensure political stability in that state,'' Mr Sangma told UNI here today.

Asked about Congress failing to improve from its last tally of 25, the former Congress-turned-NCP leader said, it was expected from the very beginning that the party will fail to improve their seats in the 403-members House.

''We were all hoping that the Bharatiya Janata Party will shine, but they too failed,'' Mr Sangma said, while reiterating that the BSP's landside victory will ensure political stability.
