Preparations underway for Kharif cultivation in MP

Bhopal, May 11 (UNI) Preparations are underway for the cultivation of paddy, soyabean and other Kharif crops in 1.07 crore hectare area in Madhya Pradesh this year.

Of the total area, 45.81 lakh hectare will be covered by foodgrains, 11.55 lakh hectare by pulses, 53.15 lakh hectare by oilseed and 6.75 lakh hectare by cotton crops, official sources said.

The state government has already sought the intervention of Fertilisers and Chemicals Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to ensure timely supply of required fertilisers for the Kharif crop this year to avert an unpleasant situation as happened due to delayed supply last year.

Paddy will be sown in 17 lakh hectare, jowar in 5 lakh hectare, maize in 9.15 lakh hectare and bajra in two lakh hectare. In pulses category, tuar will be cultivated in four lakh hectare, urad in six lakh hectare and moong in 1.15 lakh hectare.

Soyabean will be sown in about 47 lakh hectare and groundnut in 2.40 lakh hectare.

A maximum of 21.21 lakh hectare will be brought under Kharif in Indore division, 19.54 lakh in Ujjain division, 18.24 lakh hectare in Bhopal-Hoshangabad division, 11.30 lakh hectare in Rewa division, 7.80 lakh in Sagar division, 6.98 lakh in Gwalior and 2.81 lakh in Chambal division.

Official sources said an action plan had been chalked out to increase kharif production per hectare with stress on paddy and soyabean.
