Padmashri Brig Pande dead

Shillong, May 11 (UNI) Padmashri Brigadier(Retd) B C Pande died today after a prolonged illness at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantonment.

He was the Colonel of the Assam Regiment(AR) from November 1962 to June 1970 and was fondly called 'Papa Pande'. Commissioned in the Army Service Corps in 1938, Brigadier Pande had commanded the 1/4 Gorkha Regiment and 3 Assam.

He had also commanded the 4 Gorkha and the Assam Regimental Centre. Brigadier Pande was also instrumental in raising the BSF Training Centre at Kanpur. For his outstanding contribution, he was awarded the Padmashri in 1971.

AR officials conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
