North Karnataka reels under severe heat wave condition

Gulbarga, May 11 (UNI) With mercury rising above 40 degree celsius, the North Karnataka region today reeled under severe heat wave condition.

Adding to the woo, the region witnessed acute shortage of drinking water and frequent power failure.

The most affected districts in the region were Gulbarga, Raichur, Bijapur and Bidar.

The streets wore a deserted look during the day as people preferred to remain indoors.

In Gulbarga, people staged an agitation to protest against the scarcity of drinking water.

The bandh called by Janapara Vedike evoked mixed response.

All commercial establishments remained closed while the government offices and banks functioned normally.

The buses plied with police escort during the bandh.

However, no untoward incident was reported, police said.
