Manufacturers asked to improve boiler efficiency

Chennai, May 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Public Works Department Secretary S Rajarathinam today called upon the boiler manufacturers to come out with valuable suggestions to improve the efficiency of boilers and reduce atmospheric pollution caused by it.

Inaugurating a three-day exhibition-cum-seminar 'Boilers 2007', organised by the Tamil Nadu Boiler and Components Manufacturers and Users Association here, he pointed out that many Western countries were looking at India, particularly Tamil Nadu, for outsourcing engineering manufacturing and other services connected with boilers.

All the boiler companies in Tamil Nadu were over booked and were launching expansion programmes.

Mr Rajarathinam said there was a worldwide demand for power equipment and the market was expected to grow at an annual rate of four to five per cent, but in India and China the growth potential was expected to be 15 to 20 per cent. This steep growth meant that India had to produce 15,000 MW of power per year in the next ten years. Utilising this opportunity, boiler manufacturers should produce more number of boilers, he appealed.

He said over 35 per cent of the carbondioxide pumped into the atmosphere was by boilers. Countries like the US were trying to create zero emission boilers, thus underlining the need for improvements in boiler manufacturing with the stress on environment.

Association President B Pattabiraman, in his address, urged the State Government to create a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for boiler industries to meet the growing demands in the coming years and announce concessions in the form of tax holidays. Like the services sector, boiler industry was also poised for growth in the next five to seven years, he said.

He said 'Boilers 2007' would provide an excellent opportunity for the exhibitors to present live demonstrations of their products and make presentations. A rich variety of equipment, accessories and testing equipment were exhibited.
