Lok Sabha adjourned for Monday on members' request

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was today adjourned for the day by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in memory of the 1857 martyrs in deference to the unanimous request by the House.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, Mr Basudeb Acharia (CPM) stood up and requested the Speaker to adjourn the house in deference to the memory of all those who laid down their lives in India's first War of Independence.

When Mr Devendra Prasad Singh of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and others endorsed the request, the Speaker, while stating that he was the servant of the House, adjourned the proceedings for the day and announced that the House will meet on Monday.
