Srinagar, May 11 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir will have two separate directorates of industry and commerce in the two divisions to ensure balanced growth and development.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad announced this while inaugurating the 53rd Industrial and Handicrafts Exhibition at Kashmir Haat here last evening.

''The industry has suffered badly due to single directorate that stayed six months each in Jammu and Srinagar. The authorities in both the regions should work for promoting the industry in every district of the state,'' he said.

Mr Azad said the ultimate goal of the new industrial policy was to bring every feasible area under the ambit of industrialisation and trade activities.

To translate the policy into action and ensure balanced growth and development of industries, the government has decided to have separate directorates for Jammu and Kashmir, he added.

The Chief Minister said holding of industrial and handicraft exhibitions play a vital role in enhancing trade relations between entrepreneurs besides providing opportunity for tourists to know about the products manufactured in the state.

''The exhibitions also help boost marketing through tourists and provide amusement and entertainment. Last year, I had suggested holding of exhibitions twice in Srinagar and Jammu in the season instead of once,'' he added.

Mr Azad stressed the need for promoting interactive programmes between the outside traders and those from the valley. ''Support of the industrial department is a must for revival of industry in Kashmir,'' he added.
