Heavy showers, squall cool Delhi again

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) Heavy showers and strong thunder squalls brought about a tremendous coolness in the weather in Delhi, leading to a drastic fall in mercury by 14 degrees Celsius.

The heavy rains and the accompanying squall, blowing at a speed of 54 kmph, in the south westerly direction, hit Delhi at 2015 hrs, bringing the mercury down from 40 degrees C to 26 degrees C.

25 mm of rainfall was recorded in just a span of 15-20 minutes, the weather office said.

The rainfall accompanied by hailstorm, led to disruption of traffic in several areas of the city and caused water logging at many places.

This is the second consecutive day that the capital has been cooled down by rains and squall. Yesterday, too, rainfall and heavy squall, at 62 kmph, had plummeted the mercury by nearly 5 degrees C.

Weathermen say more rains and thunderstorm were likely in Delhi in the next 48 hours.
