Dinakaran case: DMK Mayor, ex-Mayor surrender in court
Madurai, May 11 (UNI) City Mayor Thenmozhi, former Mayor P Kulandaivelu and a DMK functionary, accused in the burning of Tamil daily 'Dinakaran's office owned by the Maran family, surrendered before a judicial magistrate at nearby Melur today.
The three were loyalists of Mr M K Azhagiri, the elder son of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi whose arrest was being demanded by the newspaper management for instigating the ransacking and setting ablaze of the daily's office here on Wednesday, in which three employees were killed.
Their arrest appeared imminent with the police having filed a case against them under sections 147 and 148 of the IPC.
Magistrate Ravindran, before whom they surrendered, ordered their release on bail.
The Mayor's husband, P Gopinathan, and four others were arrested yesterday and produced in court in connection with the case. They were also released on bail by the magistrate.
Meanwhile, police have secured ten more accused in the case pertaining to ransacking of the newspaper office and preventing public servants from performing their duty.
