Congress protecting Venugopal: PMSF

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) The Progressive Medicos and Scientific Forum (PMSF) today accused the Congress of ''protecting'' AIIMS Director P Venugopal, who it alleged, was not initiating measures to address complaints of caste discrimination in the institute.

''From the statements issued by some leaders of Congress, including spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi in which they have shown considerable sympathy towards the AIIMS Director Dr Venugopal clearly reiterates its consistent tactics of protecting him,'' PMSF spokesperson Vikas Bajpai said.

He claimed that the Director was not implementing the decision of the Governing Body, which is the supreme decision-making body of the institute.

''In spite of being told by the Governing Body to comply with all the orders passed by it, Dr Venugopal has not initiated any measures in that direction even four days after the meeting,'' he added.

Dr Bajpai said the AIIMS administration had not taken any action on complaints of caste discrimination.

''Despite ample evidence and the findings of the Thorat Committee nothing has been done so far.'' he added.

Dr Bajpai reiterated PMSF demand to dismiss Dr Venugopal, claiming it necessary for redeeming the prestige of AIIMS.
