Congress hails people's verdict in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi, May 11: Congress today welcomed the verdict of theelectorate in the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh giving a clearmandate for BSP supremo Mayawati to form a new Government.

"The verdict is against the misrule and anti-people policies ofthe Samajvadi Party Government,led by Mr Mulayam Singh,"Congressspokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.

"We are also happy that the people of Uttar Pradesh have rejecteda communal party like the BJP once again,"he said talking to UNI.

"As far as Congress is concerned, we are conscious of the factthat the mandate is for the party to sit in the Opposition," Mr Singhviadded reacting to the party's slight improvement in position.
