Cong hails people's verdict in UP

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) The Congress today welcomed the verdict of the electorate in the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh giving a clear mandate for BSP supremo Mayawati to form a new Government.

"The verdict is against the misrule and anti-people policies of the Samajvadi Party Government,led by Mr Mulayam Singh,"Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.

"We are also happy that the people of Uttar Pradesh have rejected a communal party like the BJP once again,"he said talking to UNI.

"As far as Congress is concerned, we are conscious of the fact that the mandate is for the party to sit in the Opposition," Mr Singhvi added reacting to the party's slight improvement in position.
