BJP condemns CD contents to comply with EC's order
New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) Complying with the orders of Election Commission on the controversial CD issue, the BJP today declared that it did not approve of the contents of the CD and condemned the same.
BJP General Secretary Ananth Kumar giving a detailed account of the CD and its 'unauthorised release' at Lucknow said the party had issued a suo-motu clarification in New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh after the lapse was found out that it had not prepared, produced, distributed or permitted the impugned CD.
He said BJP leader Lalji Tandon had also stated that he was under the mistaken impression that he was releasing only 8 CDs while one CD in different packaging was placed by someone unauthorisedly. He had expressed regret for the same and the party too had expressed its regret before the Chief Electoral Officer of Lucknow for this mistake.
The BJP General Secretary said the party had submitted all the facts before the EC during the hearing. Since the EC in its May 8 order had asked the 'respondent party (BJP) to come out with an unequivocal and unambiguous declaration that they strongly condemned the contents of the CD,' the BJP had no hesitation in doing so in consonance with its stand that it had taken suo motu even before the notice was received.
