Azad for blending academics with moral education

Jammu, May 11 (UNI) Jammu and kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said education should be a blend of academic and moral values.

The Chief Minister was inaugurating the new girls hostel at Jammu University here this evening. Recalling his student days and hostel life in Kashmir University, Mr Azad said he learned most during his student days.

Mr Azad said hostel life help in nurturing social and moral values among students and the interaction with peer groups and students from different parts of the state and country provides an opportunity for cultivating friendship and holistic development. He said apart from getting degrees, life in educational institutions also gives shape to ones social and moral behaviour.

The Chief Minister said the new girls hostel is a state-of-the-art complex with modern facilities for students providing excellent ambience for study.

Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof Amitabh Mattoo said the visionary and able leadership of the Chief Minister, who is also Pro-Chancellor of the university has greatly helped the varsity in scaling new heights of excellence.

Giving details about new hostel, Prof Mattoo said the building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2.25 crore in a record time of ten months.

Spread over an area of 30000 square feet the complex has thirty-six rooms with accommodation for 108 students besides two warden quarters.
