AIADMK seeks dismissal of TN govt over attack

New Delhi, May 11: The Madurai media attack again led to noisy scenes and resulted in frayed tempers in the Rajya Sabha today with the All India Anna DMK members demanding dismissal of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, AIADMK members got on their feet wanting the House to discuss Wednesday's incident in Madurai wherein three employees of daily 'Dinakaran' were killed in an attack on their office allegedly by DMK supporters who were protesting against a story carried by the paper on the line of succession in their party.

However, the Chair told them to let the Question Hour proceed and asked them to go back to their seats. But the Members kept on insisting for suspension of the Question Hour.

When Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat asked, ''After all, what do you want?'', the members replied, ''Dismiss, dismiss''.

There were also heated exchanges with the Treasury benches.

Ms S G Indira said the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was going out of hand, and the matter deserved the House's immediate attention.

The Chairman agreed that the matter was very serious, and wanted the members to discuss it seriously after the Question Hour.

It was after great persuasion that the members left the Well of the House. But even before they resumed their seats, the Chairman stood up and announced that the House was being adjourned till Monday in view of various functions in today in connection with the 150th anniversy of the First War of Independence.
