Guwahati, May 11 (UNI) The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has been shaken by human trafficking scandal as the Lok Sabha Secretariat received complaints against one of their two Lok Sabha MPs.

According to media reports, the scandal came to light after the Lok Sabha Secretariat passed on complaints received from public to investigating agencies The AGP has two MPs, Sarbananda Sonowal and Arun Sharma, in the lower House.

''Fortunately I have travelled abroad only thrice. Each time I was a part of the Lok Sabha delegation led by Speaker Somnath Chaterjee,'' Sarbananda Sonowal said.

MP Arun Sharma, however, could not be contacted for his comment in the matter. But, Mr Sonowal clarified that he had neither been contacted by the Lok Sabha Secretariat nor by any investigation agency.

According to the complaint received by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, about 130 previous and present MPs were allegedly involved in the human trafficking scandal and 40 of them were sitting MPs.

The list published in the media had another Congress MP from Asom, giving them yet another opportunity to pin down the AGP just before the Rajya Sabha election.

This new revelation has somewhat unsettled the AGP which was in the middle of an unending consultation with other political parties in putting up a joint candidate for the second seat in the Rajya Sabha.

The consultation has remained inconclusive till the filing of this report. AGP President Brindabon Goswami today refused to be drawn into the controversy, when contacted.
