AASSATA demands regularisation of SSA teachers

Itanagar, May 11 (UNI) Uncertainty looms large over the fate of over 2,500 odd teachers posted in Arunachal Pradesh under centrally-sponsored Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA), as the state government has so far not mooted any plan for their regularisation.

Threatening to go on an indefinite strike till their demand for regularisation was met within a stipulated period, the All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Association(AASSATA) has urged the state government to come out with a policy for regularising these teachers in order to ensure sincere and dedicated services.

The absence of job security for SSA teachers would result in the detoriation of teacher standard, the association said.

The then state education minister Chowna Mein had turned down the plea that of regularisation of the job of the teachers under SSA, although the Operation Black Board(OBB) and Hindi teachers under the project were regularised.

The association further claimed that it would be difficult for the government to regularise the rising number of SSA teachers at once unless they were regularised in a gradual manner.
