95 kgs of banned plastic bags seized

Mumbai, May 11 (UNI) BMC has seized 95 kgs of banned plastic bags from various traders operating in the city.

According to a press statement, BMC officials raided various establishments and traders on Dadasaheb Phalke Road, Dr Ambedkar Road, Acharya Dande Marg, Bhoiwada market, T J Road and Prabhodanker Thackeray Garden.

Shop-keepers, retailers, hawkers and other traders were raided and 95 kg of plastic bags were seized from them. The BMC registered 211 cases against the traders and Rs 83,400 was collected in fine from the offenders.

A ban on carry bags of less than 50 microns is in force in the city, but when the BMC officials conducted the raids, it was found that bags less than 30 microns are being used.

The raids were conducted under Additional Municipal Commissioner R A Rajiv and the BMC plans to conduct many such raids.
