4.13 million GSM users added in April

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) The country's GSM subscriber base reached 125.57 million in April with an addition of 4.13 million new customers in comparison to 121.43 million subscribers in March 2007.

Among all circles, category C circles witnessed the highest rate of growth at 4.36 per cent, followed by category A circles at 4.15 per cent, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said today.

Within the category C circles, the highest growth was recorded by North East (7.18 per cent) followed by Assam (7.06 per cent).

Bharti Airtel Ltd, country's leading mobile service provider, added 1.75 million customers in April, taking its user base to 38.9 million.

In the category B circles, Rajasthan recorded the highest growth at 5.41 per cent, followed by West Bengal and Andaman&Nicobar at 4.76 per cent.

Category A circles also witnessed a growth of 4.15 per cent in April. Tamil Nadu recorded the highest growth of 5.57 pert cent followed by Gujarat at 4.52 per cent.

The metro subscribers grew by 1.02 per cent over the previous month while Mumbai recorded the highest growth at 4.46 per cent.

State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd added 3,26,973 customers, taking its user base to 27.8 million, while Hutchison Essar Ltd 1.26 million new customers lifted its user base to 27.7 million.
