Yuvraj allowed to withdraw petition
Chandigarh, May 10 (UNI) Team India Cricketer Yuvraj Singh was today permitted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to withdraw his petition for quashing the proceedings in a case now pending before the trial court at Gurgaon.
The proceedings pertain to the incident of December 15 last year and subsequent order of January 7 this year summoning him to appear on June 6 before the trial court.
The complaint had been filed by Ms Neelima Mahajan Singh of Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi. It pertains to the incident relating to a social function.
Yuvraj has already been granted exemption by the lower court from personal appearance since he is touring Bangladesh as a member of the Indian cricket team.
While allowing the withdrawl of the petition , Justice Surya Kant directed the petitioner to appear through his counsel at the next date of hearing, June 6 before the trial court. Subsequently, he would make a plea for exemption from personal appearance in view of his pre-occupation with the national side.
Earlier, Ms Shabnam Singh, mother of Yuvraj had moved a similar plea in the High Court and the same was also withdrawn to put in the prayer at the trial court level, according to the counsel concerned.
