Jaipur, May 10 (UNI) The Rajasthan Government has decided to accord more independent status to the Rajasthan Police Forensic Science Laboratory by amending the Rajasthan Police Forensic Science State Service Rules 1979 and Rajasthan Police Forensic Science Subordinate Service Rules 1980.

The proposal to this effect was approved by the state cabinet which met here this evening under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Ms Vasundhara Raje.

Accordingly, the Rajasthan Police Forensic Science Laboratory will now be known as Rajasthan State Forensic Science Laboratory and will work under the administrative control of state Home Secretary instead of the Director General of Police (DGP), state government spokesman and state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Singh Rathore said.

After this change in the status, the reports of the laboratory would be accepted as evidence in the court and the reporting scientists would not require to attend the court proceedings to substantiate the reports, Mr Rathore said.

The National Human Rights Commission had also recommended this change in the status, he added.
