Prisoner attempts suicide in Himachal Pradesh
Nahan, May 10: A jail inmate has attempted suicide by cutting his arms with a sharp edged weapon on Tuesday evening, police sources said.
Karam Chand, serving life term in the Model Central Jail in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, attempted suicide minutes before he was asked to return to his barrack, the sources told UNI here yesterday.
The inmate was admitted to Nahan Regional Hospital after the wardens noticed injuries on his arms.
The inmate has alleged that the jail authorities were not serious in getting his throat ailment treated despite lodging several complaints, they said.
However, the jail authorities have said that he had been treated at a Shimla hospital, where doctors said ''since the ailment was not serious, he should not be admitted there for treatment''.
