Polio case detected in Jodhpur

Jaipur, May 10 (UNI) The efforts to irradicate polio from Rajasthan has got a severe jolt with a confirmed case of polio being detected in Jodhpur city.

Jodhpur Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Premlatha confirmed that a 6-year-old in the city is afflicted with polio.

''A six-year-old boy in the city was diagnosed with polio and a virological investgation was carried out after putting him under the category of Acute Flaccid Paralysis. Later a laboratory test in Ahmedabad confirmed that he is afflicted with polio of P-1 class'', DR Premlatha said.

Following the confirmation, WHO has announced special pulse polio drive in the city along with other neighbouring distrcits of Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Pali, Nagaur, Bikaner and Ajmer districts.

Earlier it was claimed that the deadly virus has already been irradicated from the district.
