Shillong, May 10 (UNI) Meghalaya Minister Robert Garnet Lyngdoh today took a U-turn on his statement not to contest the coming election in the state.

Two days ago, Mr Lyngdoh held the Higher and Technical Education portfolio in the Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government and had decided not to contest the polls alleging that the present political system had failed to meet the people's requirements.

'' I will contest the polls as several people have asked me to reconsider my stand, '' Mr Lyngdoh, representing Laitumkhrah seat for two consecutive terms, said.

Mr Lyngdoh denied that the Nationalist Congress Party had approached him to contest the election.

'' There has been no attempt by any political party to woo me to join their party, '' he added.

'' I am a Congressman and will remain with the Congress, '' the senior Congress leader asserted.

Urging the people of the state to constantly monitor their elected representatives, Mr Lyngdoh said, '' People should come out of their own comfort zone to ensure that the public representatives do not get away with what they do. '' '' The people should play a pro-active role to change the present political scenario in the state, '' Mr Lyngdoh opined.
