Journalists condemn 'Dinakaran' attack
Chennai, May 10 (UNI) The media today held demonstrations in various parts of Tamil Nadu condemning the attack on Tamil Daily 'Dinakaran's office in Madurai in which three persons were killed and sought immediate action against those involved in the incident.
A Tiruchirapalli report said over 100 journalists affiliated to the Trichy Press Guild staged a demonstration near the Anna Statue at Chinthamani Area.
Braving hot sun, the scribes urged the state government to take immediate action to arrest the culprits involved in the attack and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.Wearing black badges, the scribes observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims.
Sribes at Pudukkottai, Perambalur and Ariyalur also condemned the attack and staged demonstrations.
In Madurai, mediapersons belonging to the Madurai Reporters Guild held a demonstration at the Collectorate Complex demanding justice for the victims and arrest of the culprits.
As many as 200 journalists belonging to the Cuddalore Journalists Association held road roko on the Pondicherry-Cuddalore National Highway and asked the state Government to immediately enact a law for protection of journalists, a report from Cuddalore said.
Protests were also held in Villupuram District.
A report from Thiruvallur said journalists belonging to the Thiruvallur District Journalists Association held a demonstration near the Kamarajar state. They also observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims before submitting a memorandum at the Collector's office.
