"Indian Bank Global Debit Master Card" launched

Chennai, May 10 (UNI) Indian Bank with Master Card launched "Indian Bank Global Debit Master Card" here today.

Indian Bank Chairman and Managing Director K C Chakrabarty said the Bank would introduce certain incentives for their customers in order to encourage them to use credit and debit cards of the Bank.

He said the card would empower the customers to gear up for the retail explosion. The growing consumption level would lead to much greater usage of debit cards, especially as the organised Indian Retail market was expected to attain 22 billion US dollars by 2011.

He also wanted the Debit Card technology to be upgraded to Smart Card Technology thereby benefitting the majority of the population.

He said more POS terminals should be made available in the rural areas.

He demanded a reduction in the International Payment Gateway Charges so as to make it affordable to the common man which would help increase the volume of the business.
