Impersonator arrested for trying to dupe poll candidate

Pratapgarh, May 10 (UNI) A fraud has been arrested for allegedly impersonating an Uttar Pradesh assembly poll observer and promising victory to a candidate in the district.

Police Superintendent Satyendra Veer Singh today said the accused, Mahaveer Pal and his aide Tej Bahadur Singh were today sent to jail.

Pal allegedly contacted Samajwadi Kranti Dal candidate from Gadwara assembly segment Nagendra Singh Yadav alias Munna over telephone, claiming to be election observer Rahul Kumar.

The accused demanded Rs five lakh in cash for facilitating Munna's win at the hustings.

However, Munna contacted the police, who laid a trap.

Pal had finalised a place in Chilbala Bazaar in Kotwali area here for the delivery of money.

The duo was arrested, when they arrived to collect the money last evening.

Investigations were on.
