Husband booked for torturing wife

Hoshiarpur, May 10 (UNI) A housewife was allegedly poisoned to death by her husband and in-laws at Akaam village yesterday evening, police today stated.

On the complaint of Mangat Dass of Swar village, father of deceased Meena Kumari, the police today booked her husband Palvinder Singh, an army personnel, his brother Narinder Singh and sister-in-law Seema under section 304 B of the IPC.

According to the police sources, the complainant stated that his daughter Meena Kumari was married with Palvinder Singh about two years ago. The husband and in-laws used to maltreat and torture his daughter for bringing insufficeint dowry, the complainant alleged.

He further claimed that his daughter was forced to consume poison, after which she died. All the alleged accused are absconding.

In another case, Parveen Rani, daughter of Avtar Singh of Bhangala village has got a case registered under sections 498 A of the IPC against her husband Baljit Singh, mother-in-law Gurmit Kaur and father-in-law Jaswant Singh, all of Hazadpur village for allegedly torturing and maltreating her for more dowry.
